Film Posters
Film posters are used to advertise films. Each film will have several different posters to advertise it. It will contain the name of the film, a picture to accompany the name – either of characters in the movie or something within the film, a tagline, and the names of the actors and also the director and producer. It will also show the release date, if not already released, or ‘in cinemas now’. Original film posters will be collected by film memorabilia collectors who will preserve them in their original form to increase its value with its age.
Film posters are found everywhere, in various forms and sizes. They will advertise the film using posters in the cinema, and also outside it, in the form of billboards, on websites, in magazines and newspapers, and even flyers and on the cover of DVDs. Due to the fact that the poster will be seen by so many in so many different forms and places, it is important that the poster depicts something memorable. Its varied forms has also led to the production of door posters which are longer in length than original posters, and fit on the length of a door. Film posters in this form will usually be of a character from the film, coupled with either their character name, or their actual name.
The poster may depict either a scene from the film or an individual character itself. Often, pending the release of a much awaited film, there will be teaser-posters that will reveal snippets of what the upcoming film will be like. It is usually to generate some hype for the film.
